Fashion Fix #19

Morning lovers, it's fashion fix time! Wooohooo don't you just love it!?! Anyway I need to add something that I forget to mention as something I love in yesterday's post about Pavement.

Their break-up statement ought to go down in history as one of the best ones ever! A spokesperson for Domino records said: "Pavement are retiring for the foreseeable future to: 1. Start families 2. Sail around the world 3. Get into the computer industry 4. Dance 5. Get some attention."

Fuck yes, but back to my fashion fix. It's all about jewellery today. I'm not a big jewellery person myself, but the stuff that Zoe & Morgan are doing is just so heart-breakingly beautiful that I had to share it with you. Enjoy, but don't overspend!

Pavement

Morning guys, how are you today?

This blog post has been a long time coming. It’s about Pavement. Everybody loves Pavement. I know, you know, everyone knows. However, being the stupid and rebellious girl I am, I always refused to fully embrace them. At college, everyone loved them, I was into Britpop. At uni everyone loved them and wore their T-Shirts, I was into Refused. It was that sort of anti-reaction that I sometimes get when people keep telling me how great some band/designer/person is and I just cannot help disliking them. Strange shit.

Anyway to cut a long story short. I have now grown up and finally listened to Pavement for the first time properly. And I have to say I’m digging them. Bloody brilliant lyrics, a lovely sense of DIY ethics, a fascinatingly dissonant voice and melodies that will define what ‘indie’ really means for generations to come.

So in order to cherish my blossoming love affair with Pavement, I have come up with a top 4 list of things I love about them.

Lyrics: “So drunk in the August sun and you're the kind of girl I like because you're empty and I’m empty and you can never quarantine the past” or “Darlin' don't you go and cut your hair. Do you think it's gonna make him change? "I'm just a boy with a new haircut" And that's a pretty nice haircut” Fucking brilliant.

Underdog appeal: It’s the old story of the band, which was never really commercially successful during their time, but nonetheless achieved a cult following and influenced generations of musicians to come. Their only moderate commercial success defines them as the typical underdog, and let’s face it, we all love an underachiever.

Geek chic: Fuck Weezer and fuck Ben Folds. Is it a coincidence that nerdy Seth Cohen loves Pavement? Don’t think so. Pavement are the ultimate misunderstood geeks and I love it.

Tunes: Find a lovely Pavement playlist here with all my fave tunes!

Life according to Andrew WK

Morning guys, yesterday I found my new favourite past-time activity. Stalking Andrew WK’s Twitter. Not only because it’s easily the most entertaining and hilariously funny outlet of his thoughts but also because he actually says some pretty smart stuff. Smart stuff disguised in stupidity that is. You get me?

So I thought it would be nice to write a blog post about life according to Andrew WK. It’s 50% spot on and 50% mental. Love it.

PARTY TIP: Go.

PARTY TIP: Fuck.

PARTY TIP: Take a shower wearing sunglasses. It's way more intense than you'd expect!

PARTY TIP: Don't take things too seriously. Life is absurd.

PARTY TIP: If you've never inhaled a bit of black pepper, it's worth trying at least once!

PARTY TIP: Go outside. If you're already outside, touch a tree.

PARTY TIP: Look at a pretty lady!

PARTY TIP: Go the rest of the day without underwear.

PARTY TIP: Be awesomer.

PARTY TIP: It's OK to lie, but when you make a promise, keep it. A promise is more important than truth.

PARTY TIP: Put your energy into supporting what you love, not fighting what you hate.

PARTY TIP: The only real failure in life is not following your heart. That and not partying.

If you're single, it's time to ASK YOUR CRUSH ON A DATE! To break the ice say, "Andrew W.K. told me to ask you out today!"

If a guy's messing with you, just party him. If a girl's annoying you, just party her. IF SOMETHING'S WRONG, JUST PARTY IT.

Tunited

Morning guys! What a match, eh, what a match?? Unbelievable.

Anyway, today I would like to talk about
Tunited. Tunited is a new music-sharing platform and because they are so terribly in sync with fresh new music, they have asked the master of all new music to be a tastemaker. And yes I am talking about myself. So now my face is all over their website, which is quite nice. They also asked me to fill in this 'tastemaker' questionnaire, which could be quite entertaining for you to read, too. So go and check out the site!

1. Vital stats – name, age, location, job, hair length...

Linda, 26, Bristol, Marketing and PR, shoulder length and hot blonde, open to be asked on dates...

2. In a tweet (no more than 160 characters), describe your musical taste.

I love everything from ghetto-tech to tropical indie to hyperdub, but I love Johnny Flynn the most. My favourite music is to be found in that space somewhere between bad R’n’B and great R’n’R. Currently I’m obsessed with JLS ‘One Shot’.

3. What’s the first gig you went to (when, what was it like etc)?

The first gig I went to was Ash in Berlin when I was about 16 years old, simply because I thought I was ‘Girl from Mars’. Still love that band.

4. What’s the most recent gig you went to (when, what was it like etc)?

Most recently I went to see Johnny Flynn and the Sussex Wit, which was magical. He truly is the best singer songwriter with an incredible presence and the voice of an angel. I also went to see Berlin punk-funk band Beatsteaks, who just blow the roof off of any venue. Thoroughly recommend both bands.

5. Finish this sentence in whatever way you want, “If music be the food of love...”

“If music be the food of love, I would be morbidly obese.”

6. Favourite band of all time?

Close call between Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster, British Sea Power and Joy Division.

7. Favourite band of right now this minute?!

Love The Drums (cheesy)

Love JLS (Simply embarrassing)

Love Sleigh Bells (rockin’)

Love Perfume Genius (fragile)

Love Kele’s solo stuff (dancey)

Love A Place To Bury Strangers (loud)

Love Zola Jesus (deep)
